Gaming accounts and email

Use a temporary email for game sign-ups,
but don’t let the address expire first.

Can you use a temporary email to sign up for Steam? You may receive the verification email, but gaming accounts often last for years. Decide whether you plan to keep the account before choosing an email address.

From getting an address to receiving a code

Getting a verification code with a temporary email is straightforward. The key is not to confuse short-term access to a code with long-term account recovery.

1

Open and copy your address

Get a temporary email address from our homepage and copy it in full. Don’t switch addresses afterward: emails sent to the old one won’t appear in the new inbox.

2

Request a code on the sign-up page

Enter the address on the gaming platform and check the spelling. Some platforms may block disposable email addresses. If you see a rejection message, don’t keep requesting codes.

3

Wait for the email and check who sent it

Keep this site’s inbox open; it refreshes automatically. Find the sender and verification code, then enter it on the gaming site. Never share your code with anyone.

For an account you plan to keep using, choose an email address you can access long term

A Steam or other gaming account may be linked to your game library, purchase history, and friends. The platform may send another verification email if you forget your password, sign in on a new device, or need to resolve a security issue. Once a temporary address expires and is deleted, there’s no guarantee you’ll receive those emails—or be able to get the same address again.

If you plan to make purchases or keep gaming long term, use your regular email address or a forwarding alias that can keep receiving mail. If you already signed up with a temporary email, update your contact address in the gaming platform’s official account settings while the temporary address is still active, then verify the new one. Changing the email field without confirming the new address may not complete the switch.

Gaming platforms may not accept every temporary email domain

We receive emails, but we don’t control whether a gaming platform accepts disposable addresses. If it says the domain isn’t supported, follow the platform’s rules and use an accepted email address. Don’t assume your account was created just because you haven’t received an email.

No verification code? Check these things in order

Check that you copied the full address and that it hasn’t expired. Wait for the inbox to refresh automatically before trying a manual refresh. Gaming platforms may take a while to send emails, and repeatedly clicking “Send code” may invalidate the previous code.

If the page rejects the email domain outright, that’s different from a delivery delay. Don’t link an important gaming account to an address that may stop working at any time. For help choosing an address for different needs, read our guide to temporary email vs. regular email.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a temporary email to sign up for Steam?

Whether Steam accepts temporary email domains depends on its current rules. Even if you receive a code during sign-up, an expired address may not receive future emails if you need to recover your account. For an account you plan to keep, use a reliable email address.

Are sign-up and login verification codes sent in the same email?

No. A gaming platform may send separate emails when you sign up, log in from a new location, or change security settings. Codes also usually expire quickly. Successfully signing up doesn’t mean you’ll never need access to that email again.

I’ve linked a disposable email. How can I reduce the risk?

While the old address is still active, update your email in the platform’s official account settings and verify the new address. Check your two-step verification and recovery options too. If your account is locked, contact the platform’s official support team.
